Archived System Update

The moblog now creates a latest image thumbnail on the fly. This was needed as my new Treo 650 does not capture picture below 320×200. So, I figured I would moblog at 640×480, and store a thumbnail on the local server for fast display in the moblog module. The moblog checks if the date of the RSS is newer than that of the thumbnail. If so, it updates the thumbnail from the latest image in the Flickr XML. Speaking of XML, the old RSS parser that I was useing was TEH SUCK. So, I’ve switched to one that I wrote a while back. It converts XML into nice PHP arrays. I’ll be converting the moblog page to one of my own design when time allows.

Race car update.

Race Car Update! Well, the rear suspension is just about done on our Neon… excluding a single broken rear sway bar bolt. (Some bolt extractor love should fix that.) The rear drum brakes have been replaced with disks. The e-brake and dust shields are no more (all weight, no need). Chris “I do what the voices in my pants tell me to do” Childs hooked me up with a ton of parts (with urethane bushings already in place!) as well as using his connections to get my ECM re-flashed with the SOHC Mopar Performance maps.

Next on the list are:

  • Cold Air Intake
  • Front Suspension
  • Safety Gear (seat, harness, net…)

Stay Tuned! Photos might make their way to this site eventually.

Archived System Update

The randomcam is back after a brief outage to to hardware issues.

The SMS module on the homepage is working again as well. I have switched cellular providers, and the new service is much better.

The next internet phenomenon: excelcier.

Move over “Star Wars Kid”, behold Excelcier. Make sure you check out the Promo Video. My favorite part is when the owner simulates pleasuring himself while washing the car.

Work insanity, race cars, “over the hill.”

The clusterf**k of projects at work has put a serious dent in my ability to look forward to going back to the office every morning. Some folks just can’t do their darn job. Though this is the exception rather than the norm, it’s frustrating as all get-out when your bleeding yourself dry for a project and company you believe in, but a few IQ-challenged asswads keep screwing up. Anyway… that’s more or less why I’ve not updated my blog in a month.

Gina and I bought our first racecar… we’ll it’s about 75% race car: a spec-prepared Neon from Steve Couture. It needs some safety equipment installed, spec suspension, and legal tires. (And I need to attend drivers school before competing.) This promises to make next year extra exciting. My first priority will still be crewing for my father-in-law, but I hope to complete the minimum number of races at WHRRI to get my full competition license. I’ll start posting pictures of the build-up process.

I turned 30 on the 18th. My teammates covered my desk in “over the hill” decorations. Last time I checked, “over the hill” was 40 or 50, but all of this stuff had “30” on it, though. I blame the internet for speeding up time.
