I nearly had a stroke…
I nearly lost it when I saw this. After only a few seconds, the shock disappeared and I realized it’s an obvious fake. No other Apple products have cheesy stock photos plastered all over the box, not to mention the fit and finish of the packaging is less than I’ve come to expect from Apple… especially the styrofoam. At least I can feel o.k. about my XP Media Center for a little longer… though I admit that I still feel pretty dirty.

In addition to the previous tasks (home control, media hosting, web services, ldap, email, webcams) it also acts as a primary Windows domain controller for the few remaining XP machines on the Leinninger.com network.

New hardware. LAN season begins.
- Dual 500 mHz
- 1.25 gb RAM
- 1/4 Terabyte RAID array
- OS X Server 10.3
It has a few new tricks up it’s sleeve. One of them was the relatively simple and quick migration from OS X Server 10.2 to 10.3. Very smooth. Email performance has increased by a factor of 10 and the file system organization and system configuration is much more unix-like (even though the GUI remains Mac-ized). Personal rating, 9 out of 10, InfoWorld rated it highly too.
The LAN gaming season is up us. About a year ago, a few co-workers invited me to attend a LAN party. Since then, we’ve found it to be a great cure for cabin fever. One is coming up soon in at Brad’s place. If you would like to attend, but haven’t been formally invited, drop me a line.
